soaking

October 17th, 2007

To be downright blunt, I have often wondered if we the people of ECF truly understand what we have.   Have we fully capitalized on the benefits of the sweet presence of God that we have so readily available to us…particularly “The Pool”?   It could be that my own re-entry into such an oasis, from my own personal wilderness, brings those kinds of questions with quite a vengeance!   Since we went to a format that gives everyone the freedom to come and go as they will over a twelve hour period, it’s hard to calculate if we’re really tapped in or not.   Maybe we are?  Heck, I’m there at 4:30 a.m.   I know that time doesn’t work for 99.999% of the people on the planet!   Ha!   But, to me the Lord is doing something unusual and unique and my concern is that we don’t totally get it…or…we tried it and we didn’t understand the incredible gift that it is.   If that would be true, that would disturb me quite frankly.   I have been in gatherings of people who were asking God for a move of His Spirit.   But, once the Spirit winds began to blow, few actually availed themselves to the refreshing breeze.   I have shaken my head about that more than once in disbelief and wonder!

We (Elders) felt early on that the Lord would draw intercessors from the outside to the cool waters of healing and refreshment.   What we expected was that the ECF family would partake first and become carriers of the overflow.   Some are doing just that.   More will enter with time.

Instead of my trying to explain the concept of soaking, I’m going to refer you to this link:  SOAKING PRAYER.   I first heard the word “soaking” in context to prayer, with my initial visits to Toronto Christian Fellowship back in the early 1990’s.   Thousands of people actually laying down,  doing “carpet time”,  soaking in the presence of God…at one time!   It was really something to behold!   Most of the ministry involved nothing more than people being still,  quiet,  and receiving straight from the Lord’s presence.   It is a foreign concept to us this day and time.   We are information and sensory over-loaded junkies!   Everything moves faster and we are more engaged and involved than ever before!   Think about it.   Being still long enough to study God’s Word or pray or soak…it’s a real battle to stay spiritually nourished!   God can get a word to us while we’re on the run…but,  it’s almost impossible for us to get all the details that we need from Him when our pace of life puts everything in a blur.   In short…we need to stop.   We need to sloooowww dowwwnnnn.   We need the stillness.   We need the quiet.   We need to soak.  Ps 4:4-5 Tremble, and do not sin; meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and trust in the LORD. (NAS)

My prayer is that we become a saturated people!   Press us and experience the presence of the Lord.   Shake us and we slosh.  Hug us and we ooze the love of God!   Drink up brothers and sisters…drink up!   -Bro. Mike-
